What’s happening this month at Cabrillo.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS
- MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, October 10th at 6:15 pm
We’ll be showing “Muppets Most Wanted!” Doors open at 6:15 and the movie will roll at sunset (approx 6:45).Flyers are going home this week and tickets are available for $2 per person pre-sale until 10/8. At the door tickets will be $3. We will be holding a raffle for some great prizes and there will be hot-dogs, movie candy, popcorn, candy apples, and drinks for purchase.
Spirit Sticks… including a special Movie Night stick will be available for purchase as well.
- FALL FUNDRAISER
Starts Friday October 3rd
Help PTA’s fundraising efforts and get involved in our Fall Fundraiser. There will be some great gifts and prizes for students participating.Our Fall Fundraiser helps to pay for programs, assemblies, and field trips throughout the year. After the kickoff assembly on Friday your Cub will surely come home excited to support this great project! Please support them in reaching out to friends, neighbors and family to help Cabrillo reach it’s fundraising goal!
- 1st PTA MEETING
Monday, October 6th at 7pm in the PAC room
Guest Speaker at 6:30pm – Dr. Chris Jones, the Wiseburn Unified School District’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction will be our guest speaker at 6:30pm. Dr. Jones will be giving us an overview of the changes that come with the shift to the Common Core Standards, and what Cabrillo is doing new and differently this year.
- RESTAURANT NIGHT
Thursday, October 16th
Join us at Yogurtland and Union Pizza from 4-7 p.m. for a fun evening out. A portion of proceeds goes back to the school and kids always love seeing their friends and teachers outside of school. And with all this fall heat and our busy schedules, why not take a night off from cooking!!
- BOOK FAIR
October 20-24th is our Fall Book Fair
Please come help us continue our fundraising efforts while building your child’s home library. The Book Fair is stocked with books at the reading levels of all Cabrillo Cubs! There is something for everyone and we hope you’ll shop with us throughout the week. The bookfair is open Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri., from 2:15-4:00. On Wednesday 10/22 the Fair is open from 2:15-3:00 and then again during Family Literacy Night!!
- RED RIBBON WEEK
Week of October 20-24th
Red Ribbon Week is a national awareness week that focuses on teaching children to make good choices. At the K-2 level here at Cabrillo the focus is on being a good friend, making good choices and the basics of community helpers and stranger danger. There will be a special assembly during the week and different topics will be covered daily by classroom teachers. Keep your eyes open for special theme days that will be announced by the Red Ribbon Committee of teachers!
- FAMILY LITERACY NIGHT
Wednesday, October 22nd is Family Literacy Night
Our Teacher led Family Literacy Night Committee will be sharing information about this important night very soon. Learn about computer programs that support reading, find out about LEXIA and AR Programs (which PTA funds and all Cubs at the 1st & 2nd grade level use throughout the year). Learn about strategies you can use at home to develop and encourage a child who loves books and reading. PTA will be opening up the Scholastic Book Fair before and after Literacy Night so that you can purchase books to add to your home library!
- ICE CREAM FRIDAYS
Every Friday afternoon at pick-up
Ice Cream Punch Cards are a huge hit! Order yours today- 8 ice creams for $12….PLUS when the card is used up- turn it in for a FREE 9th ice cream!! Or, you can always pay $1.50 cash for ice cream which is sold on Fridays after each dismissal outside the school.We also will be needing volunteers to come out on Fridays from 1:45 to 3:15pm, if you are interested click the Volunteer Spot image below.
- VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We need your help to run all these great events and programs for our Cabrillo Cubs. To those who have turned in Volunteer Forms, thank you!! We’ve emailed everyone who has signed up, so if you haven’t received an email from our President, Liza Somilleda please email her to make sure we have your correct address.
