Cabrillo’s Annual Read-A-Thon 2014 !! “Spring Into Reading”
Spring Break is coming up soon and so is our Annual Spring Read-A-Thon! This is a fun event for all Cabrillo students, so we hope to have each child participate. Everyone who reads gets a prize for participating and the top readers will be awarded prizes for individual and class achievement.
The money raised by the Read-A-Thon benefits Cabrillo School in numerous ways – it allows the PTA to help support our school’s vital enrichment programs such as Family Literacy Night, field trips, special school assemblies, music, P.E. instruction and more. It is important that each student read at their grade level or above, the more students read, the better they will get! It also encourages parents to get involved in their child’s learning by reading to them or with them, and by cheering them on.
Please encourage your child to put a lot of energy into the Spring Read-A-Thon. The theme this year is “Spring Into Reading”. Use it as a jumping off point to find out what interests your child. Visiting our local Wiseburn Library is a fun way to find just the right books for your child to read.
We appreciate your support at home during the Read-A-Thon! We hope to make this one of Cabrillo’s most successful events—both in terms of participation and money raised. Above all, HAVE FUN and HAPPY READING!

SETTING A GOAL:
Help your child decide on a realistic amount of time per day that he/she can read during the one-week reading period, April 12th – April 21st. Record this amount as your reading goal on the Reading Log form. (Example: I will read 30 minutes every day. 30 minutes x 10 days = READING GOAL of 300 minutes!)
COMPLETING YOUR READING LOG:
Use the Reading Log form to record student’s time read each day of the Read-A-Thon. An adult MUST initial time sheets. Students receive credit for time spent reading or being read to by an adult. Parents – encourage different types of reading materials – books, magazines, and newspapers
